i took someone’s pomegranates
It’s amazing how life in Haifa has quickly, yet cautiously, gone back to normal; it feels like the last 30 days have just been a blur, events so distant… we can hear the traffic down below from our flat moving and buzzing all day (and night) long, people are out and about with life’s activities, enjoying the rest of the summer. On Friday I took Saba to the Hadar street markets, the first time he’d been in 2 1/2 years. He loved it! Oh the atmosphere–the colour, fishy smells (we looked for crabs everywhere, couldn’t find any), advertising yells and even singing from the shopkeepers. We went a little nutta and came out with bags of fruits and veges. On the walk back Saba peered down and excitedly exclaimed to my shopping load, “Oh! You got pomegranates!”, which I had not. I have no idea how I randomly just picked up that bag but, yup, there it was! Poor customer who actually bought them. Afterwards we caught up with Amu Bobby, yay! who has arrived back from the States and went baby shopping for a car seat. What we ended up coming out with was the car seat, stroller (yes, I know, I caved, ak!), and some bedding.
Saturday was absolutely beautiful… spent the afternoon in Bahji for the first time since the war. Loooved it.
